Sunday Morning Activities

Nippers The Under 6 and Under 7 nippers activities are based on fun and learning with no competition. They receive a participation award at the end of the season.

The Under 8 to Under 14 members participate in swimming, flags, board paddling and sprints. Each age group is involved in Surf Education where through various activities Nippers gain knowledge of surf and life saving skills. At the end of the season successful Nippers will receive a Surf Education Certificate.

All Nippers need to be financial and registered, therefore insured, to participate. A child may not join the club, or participate in Sunday activities until he/she turns 5 years of age, as they are not covered by SLSNSW insurance.  Parents are encouraged to give assistance as their help is vital and therefore also need to register to be insured.

The Killcare cap is required to be worn by all competitors for the duration of Nippers. This is a safety measure so that Nippers are easily identifiable in the water and on the beach.

Three Championship days are held throughout the season. To be eligible nippers need to have 70% attendance throughout the season.

Nipper activities are set up each Sunday at 9am by parent helpers according to a roster which is determined by your child’s age group.

Water Safety

Water safety needs to be provided for any water events to be conducted. Water safety participants wear orange caps and are holders of a Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). Killcare SLSC will train parents for the SRC or Bronze Medallion to help with water safety.

Age Managers

Each age group has two Age Managers. The age group of your child is determined by the age they are at midnight on 30th September this year. For example age 8 at midnight competes as an Under 9.

Cadets and other parents are encouraged to become Age Managers. Nippers are expected to stay with their group and have their names marked off before leaving. The Age Managers do a great job, please give them your assistance.
Nippers is not just about the kids. Surf lifesaving is a family commitment where parents are also encouraged to become club members and get their Bronze Medallion or participate in club activities.

Surf lifesaving ensures our beaches are safe for everyone and it is great to know we have such a great youth program like nippers available for our kids to enjoy.

WESTFIELD ROOKIE LIFESAVER PROGRAM

The Westfield Rookie Lifesaver Program was introduced into Surf Life Saving Central Coast during the 1993/1994 season, developed to assist with the education and retention of our 12 - 14 year old members through a structured development program. The Rookie Lifesaver Program is aimed at developing our future surf lifesavers in the areas of surf education, beach management and related career paths within the surf life saving movement.

The Rookie Lifesaver Programme has been developed to incorporate junior members into the patrolling environment. It is not an extension of the Junior Activities programme.

Aims of the Rookie Lifesaver Program

  • Develop the surf lifesaving skills of young members
  • Provide a transition between nipper and senior lifesaving
  • Provide a structured career path in surf lifesaving
  • Provide a smooth transition and ready flow of active members from Junior ranks by providing a programme of practical lifesaving development.
  • Involve and encourage respective Parents to become involved in both active service and administration at club level.
  • Develop strong ties between Senior and Junior Members as a result of involvement in this programme.
  • Club patrols will become more efficient as patrol members become involved with the development of juniors whilst on patrol.
